Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) has cooperated with the Department of Highways (DOH) to promote “PWA-DOH Fight against Drought” in 2021 and provide people nationwide with water supply during the drought season from March 2021 until the situation is resolved.
Mr. Kritsada Sunkhamani, PWA Deputy Governor (Technical Affairs) and Acting Governor, confirmed that Thailand has entered the summer season. “The pause in rainfall causes hot and dry weather resulting in drought in many provinces,” he said. “People are now suffering from water shortages.”
The PWA, as a unit responsible for producing and providing water supply for public consumption, has realised the importance of provision of water supply to people who need clean water continually for daily usage.
PWA’s 234 branches across the country have implemented measures to prevent and reduce the risk of drought. These include: dredging for raw water sources; exploring new natural water resources; creating temporary water barriers; inspecting water production and water supply standards, and; providing information to educate about water conservation during the drought season.
To alleviate the public’s difficulties, PWA is coordinating with DOH to promote the “PWA-DOH Fight against Drought” project in 2021 using DOH trucks to distribute water to suffering people across the country until the situation is resolved.
Government agencies and other units needing tap water for distribution to the public or more information should please contact PWA Contact Center 1662.
The PWA Acting Governor added that, “PWA is glad to support every public unit that wants to help people suffering from drought. However the general public must use water economically to help fight against the drought crisis. Please turn off water when not in use so we can keep water in reserve in case of emergency.”
