In compliance with the “Ratchathan Pansuk (Corrections Department Sharing Happiness) – Doing Good Deeds for the Nation, Religion and King Project”, Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) has carried out a study examining the hygiene levels of water supplied to nearly 100 hundred prisons and correctional institutions across the country.
Commenting on the study, which looked at 1,152 samples collected from 96 facilities, Songsak Thongsri, Deputy Minister of Interior said: “As a state-owned enterprise, under the directive of Ministry of Interior, PWA is responsible for seeking out resources for waterworks production and, its distribution to all areas throughout Thailand, except for Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan.
Songsak continued: “Water supply is seen as a vital and fundamental part of the nation’s infrastructure. As such, PWA supports the necessity of water quality control examination for those residing in the country’s prisons and correctional institutions, without exception. This mission was established in accordance with ‘Ratchathan Pansuk (Corrections Department Sharing Happiness) – Doing Good Deeds for the Nation, Religion and King Project’ to boost health and human rights standards for inmates to be equal to the standards of the general public.”
Led by PWA specialists, the samples were tested at PWA certified labs, where a well-drilled and expert team completed the quality control procedures. The 1,152 water samples collected were subject to 10 different criteria during this process, including three physical, four chemical and two microbiological assessments.
Kritsada Sankhamani, Deputy Governor (Technical Affairs) and Acting Governor of the PWA added, “PWA is delighted to provide services for the public. Please call PWA Contact Centre 1662 or visit PWA branches in your area for more information and support.”
