Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., the world-leading retail property developer, owner and operator of world-class projects, such as Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery, and one of the joint owners of ICONSIAM and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok, has received a Friendly Design Award for the fourth consecutive time at the 5th Thailand Friendly Design Expo 2022. The award is testament to the priority Siam Piwat gives to structural design across every aspect of its shopping centres to enable equal and convenient access for all.
ICONSIAM has also been recognised with a ‘universal design’ Bathroom Award. Moreover, Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok has been distinguished as a “Tourism for All” venue. These accolades reinforce ICONSIAM’s status as The Visionary Icon and reflects the value it places on utilising creativity to deliver excellent experiences to all customers.
“Throughout the past 60 years plus, Siam Piwat has strived to bring benefits to a large number of people and contribute to a better quality of life for all Thais through our businesses,” commented Ms. Chadatip Chutrakul, Chief Executive Officer of Siam Piwat Group Co., Ltd. and Director of ICONSIAM Co., Ltd. “This is integrated into all our business operations. Our goal is to ensure a friendly environment for all.”
“Siam Piwat develops properties in line with the universal design concept to propel Thailand into the universal design city space, elevate the quality of life for all Thais, and serve as a source of happiness for all.”
Siam Piwat received Friendly Design Awards in 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022). The awards testify to its Visionary Icon positioning that involves introducing cutting-edge innovations. It also entails leveraging its management excellence to ensure that its sites and spaces are designed in such a way as to be equally accessible and friendly to all people.
ICONSIAM, one of the world’s most coveted tourist destinations, has also been recognised with a universal design Bathroom Award. This comes after ICONSIAM was presented with a Friendly Design Project of the Year Award in 2018, an award that honours sites, organisations or tourist attractions that advance universal design for all. It also received, in 2019, a Friendly Design Destination Award in recognition of its exemplarily friendly design and accessibility for people of all ages, genders, and physical conditions, thereby ensuring convenience, safety, fairness, and equity for all. Furthermore, Siam Premium Outlets have been recognised with a Tourism for All award for architectural design and construction aligned with ‘universal design’ and ‘friendly design’ concepts.
“Every square inch of ICONSIAM, including its transportation system, building structure and facilities, is designed in line with the universal design concept and takes into consideration the way of life of all groups of people,” explained Mr. Supoj Chaiwatanasirikul, Managing Director of ICONSIAM Co., Ltd.
Guided by the concept of universal design, ICONSIAM is a major tourist destination that is accessible to commuters from everywhere through a land-rail-water connection and offers spacious reception areas. The pier is equipped with ramps for wheelchair users, thus ensuring access for people with physical disabilities.
Design and the materials used inside the building follow the principle of universal design. All entrances, indoor and outdoor walkways, and parking areas are outfitted with ramps wide enough for all types of wheelchairs. Every floor offers bathrooms for people with disabilities and the elderly as well as a dedicated diaper changing station and breastfeeding room, along with railings, emergency equipment, and other facilities. Elevators are large enough to accommodate wheelchairs of all types and equipped with special buttons conveniently accessible for wheelchair users. All of these can also be found with ease thanks to clearly visible and easy-to-understand signage.
“It has always been Siam Piwat’s aspiration to promote universal design and friendly design for all in order to reinforce its position as the Visionary Icon, create excellent experience for all, and ensure convenience, inclusivity, safety, fairness, and equity,” continues Mr. Supoj. “Thanks to this aspiration, over the years, OneSiam (Siam Center, Siam Discovery, and Siam Paragon), ICONSIAM and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok have been able to win over everyone’s heart as ultimate destinations and continues to do so to this day.”
