In collaboration with Extend IT, a "Smart Move in Digital Era" security workshop was held to educate Thai enterprises on how to respond to PDPA Enforcement
Data security is a critical aspect of business operations in the digital-first era, with many digital business activities dependent on forwarding, storing, computing and transferring vast amounts of data online. These activities require the use of efficient cloud and AI (artificial intelligence) to store and process customer personal data, as well as a secure data storage and transfer system.
Tencent Cloud, one of the world’s leading cloud companies, has partnered with X10 IT, Thailand’s leading technology firm to host a cybersecurity seminar entitled “Smart Move in Digital Era,” to educate all enterprises in order to prepare for the changes promptly. The seminar also highlights cloud security solutions for integrated PDPA management, encouraging Thai businesses to comply with the Personal Data Protection Act, or PDPA, which went into full effect in June.
Assistant Professor Suphawatchara Malanond, Senior Privacy Counsel and Adviser to the PDPC Office, explained, “Data security is a significant topic and a corporate responsibility, and those who are involved in data management and processing must have data security safeguards in place. In terms of corporate organisations, two roles are associated: data controller and data processor, who are responsible for access control and using data in accordance with the instructions, requirements, and laws.”
He added that to ensure an effective expansion of business capabilities, organisations must work with a reliable cloud service provider and should consider the following key aspects:
- Finding a reliable service provider capable of always maintaining a full CIA Triad security basis, including data Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability.
- Preparation of a Data Processing Agreement, to process personal data between parties in order to manage risks and govern operation of the data processor’s obligations in compliance with the law.
- Be a certified provider of Data prevention, Privacy, or Security standards from government agencies or internationally recognised organisations.
