Through a strategic alliance between AIS and GC, aimed at incorporating digital technology to promote sustainable operations based on the ESG concept (economy, society, and environment), both companies are taking a step further in their commitment.
They are now extending their efforts to create awareness and participation within the university network through green solution technology. The project, "Green University, Dumping, and Recycling for the World to Remember", invites students and staff from 11 leading universities in Bangkok and its vicinity to take part in a Garbage Collecting Challenge for the World. Participants will collect E-Waste using the E-Waste+ application and plastic waste through GC YOUturn, a platform for used plastic management. The aim is to tackle the issue of plastic waste and find the best green institute, which will be rewarded with a scholarship and an Upcycling trophy that adds value to used plastic and E-Waste.
Mrs. Saichon Submakudom, Acting Head of Public Relations and Business Relations Business Unit at AIS, expressed the joint mission of AIS and GC to engage consumers and customers in seeking solutions to waste management problems, particularly with a focus on plastic waste and E-Waste. This mission is realised through the "Green University" campaign, themed "Dumping and Recycling (Ting, Turn) for the World to Remember." The project aims to raise awareness and encourage the younger generation to understand the importance of sustainable waste management, including proper waste separation for recycling, thus contributing to environmental solutions.
Dr. Chaya Chandavasu, Executive Vice President of the Sustainability Division at PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited or GC, emphasised GC's commitment to sustainable business operations, where the principles of the circular economy are applied to elevate practices to the social sector. The collaboration with AIS further develops sustainability through digital technology, aligned with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to Net Zero by 2050.
The joint project, "Green University, Dumping, and Recycling for the World to Remember," is an expansion of AIS and GC's sustainability efforts, aiming to promote the circular economy concept and foster participation among students and staff from 11 universities. The GC YOUturn platform facilitates the proper management of used plastics, sending them back as raw materials for recycling, thus reducing environmental impact and contributing to alleviating global warming.
The participating universities include Mahidol University, Thammasat University, Suan Dusit University, Dhurakij Pundit University, King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, Chandrakasem Rajabhat University, Navamindradhiraj University, Kasem Bundit University, and Kasetsart University.
Students can participate in the garbage collection competition for E-Waste and plastic waste by bringing their items to designated waste collection points. Green Agents, as volunteers, will record the results and provide advice on proper waste sorting.
The participating universities will receive training, workshops, and environmental study visits to learn about proper waste management for both E-Waste and plastic waste. The universities collecting the highest amounts of E-Waste and used plastic waste will be awarded scholarships totalling more than 60,000 baht and upcycling trophies made from plastic waste and E-Waste.
