The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) hosted a major sports event titled 'Bangkok Sports City' in the heart of the city. This year, the Sports Division of the BMA's Culture, Sports, and Tourism Department organised the event at the front plaza of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre on March 9-10. The event was designed to support and promote the city's sports and healthcare policies.
The opening ceremony on March 9 featured senior BMA executives who discussed the vision of 'Bangkok, the City of Sports.' Notable sports figures, including Rodtang Jitmuangnon, the flyweight boxing world champion who has brought fame to Thailand, and Suphawut Thueanklang, a Thai national futsal player, participated as well. Visitors had the opportunity to explore new sports exhibitions presented by the BMA and enjoyed the day's highlight, the Bangkok Street Football 2024 competition. Teams competed for prizes totalling over 70,000 baht, awarded by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt.
This year's Street Football 2024 competition featured 64 teams from the general public competing throughout the day. The Bangkok Sports City event aims to promote and encourage engagement in sports and exercise, aligning with the city's quality of life development policy and its recognition as a 'Sports City.'
