Kasikornbank Public Company Limited (KBank) organised the "EARTH JUMP 2024: The Edge of Action" event for the second consecutive year, highlighting the growing awareness among Thai businesses of the impact of global warming on their survival. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin delivered a keynote address outlining the nation's goals and direction regarding clean energy. Over 40 global and Thai leaders shared their knowledge to help elevate Thai businesses and society towards a low-carbon economy. More than 2,000 attendees gained insights into opportunities, regulations, financial support, and experiences from businesses that have already adapted to a low-carbon economy.
In his keynote address, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin emphasised the importance of educating both public and business sectors on carbon reduction and the necessity of financial support for this transition, including loans and market capital. He noted that KBank has long supported such initiatives and that the government has issued Sustainability-Linked Bonds to encourage sustainable policies among organisations. The Prime Minister stressed that while large companies understand this need, the entire supply chain must also align with these principles to avoid export rejections. Green loans are crucial to help businesses adapt without leaving anyone behind.
Kattiya Indaravijaya, KBank's CEO, highlighted that GDP growth in many countries is inversely related to carbon emissions due to increased environmental awareness, resulting in lifestyle changes and innovations. She noted that Thailand shows positive signs of GDP recovery and reduced carbon emissions, indicating growing environmental awareness across sectors.
“KBank is committed to supporting businesses in understanding the impacts of global warming, as reflected in the continuation of this event for the second year. The forum aims to provide insights into national and international tax regulations, financial and investment rules, and experiences from businesses that have successfully adapted,” Kattiya amplified.
The event featured over 40 global and Thai speakers offering knowledge to elevate Thai businesses and society towards a low-carbon economy. Attendees gained insights from two parallel stages covering national goals, tax and financial regulations, and experiences from adaptive businesses. The Business Clinic saw over 70 startups and SMEs register for exclusive consultations with top experts, focusing on Business planning with Mackinsey & Company and decarbonisation, solar panel installation, and sustainable packaging solutions. The event, attended by over 2,000 participants throughout the day, signalled a positive shift towards a low-carbon economy among Thai businesses.
The "EARTH JUMP 2024: The Edge of Action" event served as a Carbon Neutral Event, with all greenhouse gas emissions from the activities calculated and offset. SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP) supported the event with eco-friendly design and reusable exhibition materials.
Note: KBank's sustainable financing and investment support totalled 73,397 million baht for 2022-2023 and is expected to reach 100 billion baht by the end of 2024.
