PWA Warns of Fraudulent Water Bill Scams

The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) warns the public of scams involving water supply bills, where barcodes or QR codes redirect transactions to fraudulent bank accounts. Customers are advised to ensure their bills do not have stickers or paper covering the original details and to verify the receiver's account name before making any payments, which should only be directed to official PWA accounts.

Chakapong Kamchan, Deputy Governor (Operation 2) and Acting Director of PWA, stated, “Scammers are currently targeting infrastructure bills of many government-owned enterprises. They alter barcodes or QR codes to redirect transactions to unofficial accounts. The PWA advises the public to check the bill for completeness, including customer number, name, and water usage information. Any unusual details should be reported to the PWA immediately.”

The acting director also emphasised, “To ensure convenience, speed, and safety, the public can use PWA’s online payment channels, including www.pwa.co.th, PWA Line OA: @pwathailand) with a green shield icon, and the PWA Plus Life application, available for free download on the App Store and Play Store. Payments can also be made at PWA representative outlets. For more information, please contact the PWA Contact Centre at 1662, available 24 hour
