Collaboration aims to cut over 10,000 tons of carbon emissions annually and accelerate the shift to green energy.

BIG and B.Grimm Partner to Boost Hydrogen Energy Production

BIG, a climate technology company renowned for its leadership in industrial gas and greenhouse gas reduction technology, has partnered with B.Grimm Power to sign a cooperation agreement. This agreement focuses on the study and development of hydrogen fuel for electricity generation, with the objective of transitioning from fossil fuel-based electricity to green energy production. By leveraging hydrogen innovation and technology, this collaboration aims to drive a sustainable shift to clean energy and achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Dr. Harald Link, President of B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited, a leading pioneer in Thailand's private power generation industry, announced that B.Grimm Power’s “GreenLeap – Global and Green” strategy, introduced in 2023, is a proactive initiative to navigate the rapidly evolving global energy market and meet changing customer needs. This strategy emphasises the expansion of renewable energy projects both domestically and internationally, ensuring the provision of clean, sustainable, and stable energy at affordable prices while minimising environmental impacts. Key elements include sourcing alternative energy sources (sustainable fuels) for future electricity generation and exploring hydrogen-based electricity. This strategic approach represents a transformative shift in operations, aligning with B.Grimm Power's new vision of “Empowering the World Compassionately,” and positioning the company as a leader in sustainable and safe energy development.

The collaboration with BIG, a leader in industrial gas innovation and climate-friendly greenhouse gas reduction, represents a pivotal initiative under the GreenLeap strategy. By leveraging the combined strengths of both organisations, this partnership aims to explore and promote the use of hydrogen blended with natural gas for electricity generation. This effort will broaden market opportunities for environmentally conscious consumers and is crucial in advancing B.Grimm Power's goal of increasing the share of renewable energy from 25% to over 50% by 2030. Furthermore, it aligns with B.Grimm Power's commitment to becoming a world-class energy producer and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Mr. Piyabut Charuphen, Managing Director of BIG, announced that the company is progressing with hydrogen innovations, a field in which both BIG and its parent company, Air Products from the United States, are recognised as global leaders. Air Products is the world’s largest green hydrogen producer. BIG is committed to leveraging clean energy to facilitate Thailand’s energy transition, following its business strategy of “Generating a Cleaner Future.” This strategy emphasises hydrogen energy production as a crucial climate technology for reducing carbon emissions. Preliminary studies show that using hydrogen for electricity generation can cut CO2 emissions by up to 10,000 tons annually, equivalent to planting 600,000 trees.

This collaboration with B.Grimm Power marks a significant step for Thailand’s private sector, pioneering electricity production from clean energy and advancing the development of hydrogen energy. This initiative will contribute to Thailand’s energy security and aligns with the country's Power Development Plan (PDP). BIG’s low-carbon hydrogen, certified by the Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) with the Carbon Footprint Product (CFP) label, signifies a 95% reduction in carbon emissions, comparable to Blue Hydrogen. In addition to electricity generation, hydrogen offers a viable solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the industrial and transportation sectors, in line with government policies aimed at achieving carbon neutrality.
