The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization), or GIT, alongside government and private sector organisers, have announced the upcoming 70th "Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair," known as "Bangkok Gems." The event will be held from 9 to 13 September 2024 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) and is projected to generate at least 3.5 billion baht in revenue.
Mr. Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, Director-General of the DITP, emphasised the importance of the gem and jewellery industry in driving Thailand’s economy. Despite the global economic challenges, the export of this product sector in 2023 grew by 9.61%, valued at over USD 8.8 billion. In the first half of 2024, exports reached USD 4.556 billion, an 8.48% increase year-on-year. The Bangkok Gems Fair is a key driver in helping Thailand achieve its ambition to become a global hub for the gem and jewellery trade.
"Bangkok Gems is the largest gem and jewellery trade fair in Thailand, the oldest in Asia, and ranks among the top four globally. This crucial event attracts buyers worldwide, fostering negotiations and business connections. In recent years, the fair has seen a 34% increase in exhibitors, a 17% rise in booths, a 40% growth in visitors, and a 102% increase in trade value, with more diversity in participating countries. The 70th edition is expected to generate even greater international interest and boost trade by at least 3.5 billion baht," said Mr. Phusit.
Mr. Sumed Prasongpongchai, Director-General of GIT and co-organiser of the Bangkok Gems Fair, added, "The evaluation of the 69th edition revealed high satisfaction levels among exhibitors and visitors, with an average satisfaction rate exceeding 95%. Bangkok Gems ranks first in satisfaction compared to other global trade shows. The 70th edition has already seen strong demand, with over 1,100 leading companies from Thailand and abroad showcasing their products in nearly 2,500 booths. We expect over 35,000 visitors from across the globe."
The Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair serves as a vital platform for SMEs, offering opportunities to engage with global business leaders and buyers, fostering network creation, and expanding business opportunities. The fair also features engaging activities, including the New Faces zone for upcoming entrepreneurs, 'The Jewellers' project by DITP, selected entrepreneurs from the Smart Jewelers by GIT programme, and over 60 local entrepreneurs from Chanthaburi. Highlights include a Networking Reception, gem authentication services with certified results, and educational seminars covering technical and marketing topics. Noteworthy sessions include a seminar on the Middle Eastern market and consultations by Dubai-based experts on entering the region.
The 70th Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair will be held from 9 to 13 September 2024, featuring products and services from 1,100 leading companies spread across 2,470 booths in Halls 1-8 on both the G and LG floors of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.
