Bangkok played host to the 11th Thailand Halal Assembly 2024 (THA2024), a premier event themed “Toward Halal Trust Through Digital Technology 2 AIs”, aimed at advancing Thailand's Halal industry on the global stage through cutting-edge technology. Held from 19–20 December at the Al Meroz Hotel, the event was presided over by Akanat Promphan, Minister of Industry of Thailand.
The assembly brought together over 985 on-site participants from 40 countries, with an additional 7,613 joining virtually from 34 countries, including Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Oman, China, the United States, and Japan. The gathering underscored Thailand’s leadership in Halal innovation and its commitment to integrating Actual Implementation (AI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the credibility of Halal products globally.
Assoc Prof Dr Winai Dahlan, Director of the Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University, and Chairman of THA2024, explained the dual AI approach:
· Actual Implementation (AI): Encompasses Halal standardisation, HAL-Q system implementation, Halal forensic laboratory, and innovation development. These processes utilise human expertise to ensure quality and compliance with Islamic principles.
· Artificial Intelligence (AI): Focuses on leveraging big data to optimise production processes, reduce costs, and foster trust in Halal-certified products.
The event also hosted two prestigious conferences:
- The 11th IHSATEC (International Halal Science and Technology Conference)
- The 17th HASIB (Halal Science, Industry, and Business Conference)
These conferences highlighted breakthroughs in Halal sciences, technology, and industry, reinforcing Thailand's position as a global Halal hub.
Key Highlights:
- Halal SMEs Zone: Showcased 18 innovative products developed in collaboration with the Halal Science Center, spotlighting emerging Halal entrepreneurs.
- Digital Exhibition: Demonstrated manual Halal operations supported by artificial intelligence, emphasising trust and credibility in Halal certification.
Dr Winai added, “This conference will significantly contribute to the development of Halal science, industry, and business, helping Thailand expand its global Halal market share, currently valued at USD 6.1 billion. Future growth sectors include Halal tourism, medicine, and logistics, driving the industry toward sustainable success.”
