
Birla Carbon Thailand marked a significant milestone with the ground-breaking ceremony for its latest greenfield facility in Rayong on 19 February 2025. The event was presided over by His Excellency, Mr Nagesh Singh, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Thailand, alongside Mr Dilip Gaur, Director of the Aditya Birla Group, and Mr Sanjeev Sood, Head of Expansion Projects at Birla Carbon. Senior management representatives from the company also attended the event.
Sharing his thoughts on this occasion, His Excellency, Mr Nagesh Singh, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Thailand, mentioned how “The ground-breaking of Birla Carbon's Rayong facility marks a new chapter in the enduring friendship between India and Thailand. The Aditya Birla Group has a long-standing and cherished relationship with Thailand, exemplified by its commitment to fostering economic growth and innovation in the region.” He further added, “This new plant will create significant employment opportunities, empowering the local community and strengthening bilateral ties between our nations.”
Sharing his thoughts at the event, Mr Dilip Gaur, Director, Aditya Birla Group and Director, Birla Carbon, said, “This is a watershed moment for the Aditya Birla Group and Birla Carbon. The Group came to Thailand more than 50 years ago and is proud to continue to invest and grow in this region. Thailand epitomises efficiency, discipline, and commitment, and this is visible across all the investments we have made in the country. Our Thailand operations are globally competitive and a benchmark in quality and productivity!” He further added, “This new facility will leapfrog Birla Carbon into a different league in the industry in terms of safety, environmental stewardship, and innovative products and solutions for our customers, while developing a symbiotic relationship with communities around us. I take this opportunity to wish everyone the very best as we embark on this new journey of growth and prosperity.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Sanjeev Sood, Head, Expansion Projects, Asia, Birla Carbon, mentioned that “The Aditya Birla Group has a strong presence in Thailand, with five businesses that are currently thriving, generating more than US$ 1.3 billion in revenue. From a Birla Carbon standpoint, we have established our presence here over the last five decades.” He further added, “Our Rayong facility marks a significant milestone for both Birla Carbon and the Aditya Birla Group, as we expand our footprint and strengthen our commitment to the availability of sustainable and innovative carbon-based solutions.”

The Aditya Birla Group entered the carbon black business in 1980 with its first plant in Angthong, Thailand. The Rayong facility will be the Group’s second carbon black unit in Thailand, reinforcing its commitment to growth and sustainability in the region.
