Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability, winning the BT Awards – Best Brand for a Better Tomorrow for its pioneering “Fry to Fly” (Tod Mai Ting) project. The award, presented at The 1st BT Awards at True Digital Park, honours organisations that drive positive change and contribute to a sustainable future.
The “Fry to Fly” project addresses the environmental hazards of improper used cooking oil disposal by transforming waste oil into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). For nearly two decades, Bangchak has produced biodiesel from used cooking oil, and this initiative has since evolved into SAF production managed by BSGF Company Limited.
As part of the project, Bangchak service stations serve as collection points for household used cooking oil, while the company also partners with restaurants and organisations to source oil for SAF production. The collected oil is processed at the Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery, which will soon begin operations as Thailand’s first and only standalone SAF plant in the second quarter of this year, with a capacity of millions of litres per day.
This initiative aligns with the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, contributing to:
- A potential 80% reduction in aviation industry carbon emissions compared to conventional jet fuel.
- Additional income for households and businesses through the sale of used cooking oil.
- Minimised environmental waste and improved public health by discouraging the reuse of cooking oil.
Expanding on this initiative, Bangchak has partnered with Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation to introduce “Fry to Fly Stations” in schools, educating students on sustainable waste management while allowing them to collect household used cooking oil for SAF production. This initiative fosters a culture of sustainability and empowers younger generations to contribute to environmental conservation.
Bangchak encourages the public to adopt the "No Refry" approach for better health and to contribute to sustainability by selling used cooking oil through the "Fry to Fly" project at 297 participating Bangchak service stations across 77 provinces.
