NBTC Hosts Key APT and ITU Telecom Meetings

The Office of the NBTC successfully hosted high-level APT and ITU meetings in Bangkok, advancing regional collaboration on digital development, AI, and inclusive connectivity.

The Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), hosted a series of key regional meetings from 17–21 March 2025 at the Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn, Bangkok. These included the 3rd Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (APT WTDC25-3), the ITU Regional Development Forum for Asia-Pacific (RDF-ASP), and the Regional Preparatory Meeting for Asia and the Pacific for WTDC-25 (RPM-ASP).

Clinical Professor Dr. Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck, Chairman of the NBTC, presided over the opening ceremonies and delivered keynote speeches that underscored the importance of inclusive and equitable access to telecommunications infrastructure, while also addressing data privacy and the growing influence of artificial intelligence in daily life. Distinguished attendees included Mr. Masanori Kondo, Secretary General of APT; Mr. Kila Gulo-Vui, Chairman of APT WTDC-25; Mr. Pachara Naripthaphan, Executive Advisor to the NBTC Chairman; and Mr. Suttisak Tantayothin, Deputy Secretary General for Telecommunications Affairs. 

During the RDF-ASP on 19 March, Dr. Sarana chaired the meeting and participated in a high-level roundtable on digital development trends and challenges. A ceremonial handshake between Mr. Trairat Viriyasirikul, Acting Secretary General of NBTC, and Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, marked the sixth anniversary of the Girls in ICT Day collaboration, promoting digital inclusion for girls and women.

The final event, RPM-ASP (20–21 March), featured opening remarks by Mr. Trairat and Dr. Zavazava, with Mr. Saneh Saiwong of the NBTC serving as Chair. The meetings were praised by participants and further strengthened regional cooperation on digital transformation.
