R.O.C. (Taiwan) National Day Celebrations 2020

With the arrival of our Double Ten National Day, the people of Taiwan have countless reasons to be proud

but none are more compelling than the country’s thriving democracy, commitment to protecting human rights, and the success of the Taiwan Model in combating COVID-19 and progressing the economy.

Taiwan fully displayed democratic principles during the 2020 presidential election in which 14 million voters (74.9 percent of the electorate) made their voices heard. The government of Taiwan has pledged to establish a human rights commission and lower the voting age to 18 to further expand youth’s say in government. Therefore, Taiwanese can rejoice in the strength and resilience of the country’s democracy and the shining example it sets for the world.

Besides its persistent efforts to strengthen democracy, Taiwan’s economy remains on a growth track under the country’s farsighted leadership. Building on the foundation of the Five-Plus-Two Industrial Innovation Program, Six Core Strategic Industries Plan sets out a broad vision to develop critical industries in Taiwan, including: information and digital, cybersecurity, biotech and medical, national defence, green and renewable energy, and strategic stockpile. The enterprising spirit of the Taiwanese people also guarantees successful realisation of this vision, whereby the country is well placed to achieve economic growth and stability while seizing next-generation opportunities.

Despite the impact of COVID-19 this year, Taiwan celebrates its National Day with enormous confidence, pride and hope for post-pandemic new life. Taiwan combated coronavirus to great effect, and saw this success gain more cooperation and friendship worldwide. Sharing COVID-19 pandemic management experience and essential medical items with like-minded partners has proved an advantage for Taiwan that helps build healthy relations with the world. “Taiwan Can Help” went from slogan to lifesaving mantra repeated around the globe.

Since Thailand is one of Taiwan’s valuable partner countries under the New Southbound Policy, official departments and private organisations in Taiwan have donated 1.2 million masks to Thailand, as tokens of care and love from the Taiwanese people. The actions not only demonstrate the solid bilateral friendship between Taiwan and Thailand, but also manifest the concept of “Taiwan Is Helping”.

On this special occasion, Dr. Ying-Yuan Lee, the newly-arrived Representative to Thailand of R.O.C. (Taiwan), would like to invite our Thai friends to jointly celebrate Taiwan’s National Day with us. Everyone is welcome to leave us a congratulatory message on our official social media channels:
