SINGAPORE — Specially decorated Star Wars-themed trains and buses launched on Tuesday, ahead of the much-anticipated seventh edition of the series, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, on Thursday.
The trains and buses come as part of a partnership between Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT), Disney and Lucas Film — the studios behind the new Star Wars film. The two concept trains will run on the North South and East West Lines while the two buses operating service 190 will ply central routes, said transport operator SMRT in a news release.
"This Christmas, we are excited to partner Disney to bring an intergalactic Star Wars experience into our transport and retail networks. We welcome the launch of the Star Wars trains where commuters and fans can travel in intergalactic style this Christmas," TODAY quoted SMRT Commercial's managing director Dawn Low as saying.
Characters featured include the mysterious Sith lord Kylo Ren, as well as old favourites like C-3PO and R2-D2. And if C-3PO and R2-D2 aren’t the droids you’re looking for, the new BB-8 droid is also featured in the trains.
SMRT Roads managing director Benny Lim said many bus captains have asked for their buses and service routes to be selected. "Our bus captains are very excited to welcome the Star Wars-themed buses into our depots and cannot wait to launch them into service," said Mr Lim.
The platform at Raffles Place MRT has also been transformed with special decals into an intergalactic battlefield of Dark v Light sides of the Force.
Star Wars premiums and exclusive collectibles are also available at SMRT shops, Kallang Wave and on iMOBShop.sg for a minimum amount spent.
