One soldier killed, 3 wounded in Yala bombing

YALA - A soldier was killed and three others wounded, one seriously, in a home-made bomb explosion in Muang district Wednesday morning, police said.

The bomb, which went off at 5.20am, was made of a gas cylinder, weighing between 20-25 kilogrammes.  It had been laid at the foot of a tree on a road along an embankment leading to a security checkpoint at Sapan Dam in Muang district.

While four soldiers from Company 15213 of Yala Task Force 12 were passing the spot on two motorcycles on the way to the checkpoint, the bomb was detonated remotely with a communication radio.

The explosion killed Pvt Anont Saengnopparat and seriously wounded Sgt Yuthakan Sae Lao. Pvt Anucha Masan and Pvt Pongpinit Nualthong were also injured.
