Three bombs, 3 soldiers wounded in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT - Three bombs exploded in Narathiwat on Monday morning, one injuring two soldiers and another wounding a defence volunteer.

As a patrol from Narathiwat Task Force 31 on teacher  security duty was passing Ban Cha Baepa in tambon Kosatho of Tak Bai district, a home-made bomb planted on the roadside was detonated about 6.50am.

Chief Warrant Officer Kraisorn Khoonsap and Pvt Wanchalerm Phuboonmee were wounded by the explosion. They were admitted to Tak Bai Hospital.

Soldiers despatched to assist the patrol clashed briefly with a group of insurgents, who quickly fled the scene. There were no further casualties.

Soldiers from Narathiwat Task Force 31 detained for questioning three villagers seen leaving the village in a suspicious manner.

In Sungai Padeng district, a steel box holding about 5kg of explosive went off in front of a house at the back of To Deng train station in tambon To Deng.

Villagers reported the box as a being a suspicious object. It was detonated about 8.10am as defence volunteer Baikhao Permpoon inspected the scene. Mr Baikhao received stomach wounds and was admitted to hospital.

About 9am, another bomb in a steel box placed at a road sign exploded as a group of defence volunteers passed by. There were no injuries.
